Question about going back in time....

    Shouldn't the company just adjust his current location so he is not getting paid for the PC miles?

    Is you PC-ing home for a 10 and having a dispatch on your schedule the same situation as the OP PC-ing from a random customer to a random truck stop with no dispatch for a 34? No, it is not. The only simularity is PC.

    I have PC'd home after delivering a load. Then while at home, I get my next dispatch. So when I leave home I go back on duty.

    I'm confused! If you are going to stop for a 34 why use PC if you have available hours? 40 miles can be driven in under an hour.

    People really need to understand that PC is not codified in any existing law or rule. It is allowed in a very narrow set of circumstances. Basically (some exceptions I know) to bobtail to go to the store or for a medical emergency i.e.from a terminal or home. The other reason for PC is an escape from a bad situation where you are out of hours and need to leave a shipper/receiver and get to the closest safe place to park.

    Because PC is not codified so much of this is up to DOT cop's judgment. I pity the driver with available hours caught in PC out on the open highway.

    I really don't understand why understanding PC is so difficult!

    It isn't difficult to understand at all. You cannot advance yourself to your next load under PC. They'll figure it out when they get a $1700 false log ticket.

    It's readily obvious some people who replied in this thread need to re-read my OP. I explained everything, and even ANSWER QUESTIONS THAT CAME UP AFTERWARDS, in the OP.

    Here's the issue. If you have hours available then you should be able to make a run if asked by dispatch. If you are close to running out and they pull that BS call Safety.

    To avoid problems. To avoid issues with DOT later. If you have available hours you are so much better off just using regular drive time to go get that 34.

    So many drivers are too scared to tell dispatch no! I have heard stories of drivers getting logbook tickets because they ran out of hours running that hot load and were too chicken to tell dispatch you can't.

    I'm not trying to dump on you. Just attempting to tell you that if anything happens while you are doing PC like that it will be YOU talking to safety about it NOT dispatch! When it comes to these kinds of situations as a driver you 100% cover your rear! Make sure all communications are on the QC. If dispatch attempts to use the telephone hang up on them!

    That's just it, I did have a little bit of time left, like maybe 7 hours or so. Enough that I couldn't tell them "no" to going pick up a load 3-4 hours away during my 34 reset if they would have asked me to as they have in the past. But by PC'ing to the truck stop I was able to hold onto 45 more minutes of drive time. That can be very valuable. You know that. It was perfectly legal to do that.
