So our drug tests did not return till Friday. Which put us on a 5th day of orientation. GF and I worked with my trainer in the yard for a couple hours doing some tight backs, practicing coupling and uncoupling. 2 of the drivers left out early morning heading on their first loads. 1 driver had some problems with his Samsara log and had to wait on the shop and 2 had holds on drug tests till Monday. Not privileged to what that is. My guess they had something in their test that needed explaining. Both were told to come back on Monday.
Heading out Monday, looks like my first load is Connecticut/Boston area. Traininer has alot of faith in me. I won't be driving in NYC area but will be expected to drive the rest. The 1st week being new we are limited to 8 hours of actual drive time. Week 2 it's up to 10 hours and week 3 we are expected to work a full clock.

So we had some problems with hotel, our trainers do resets at the yard/home. They agreed to put us up at local Comfort inn. Just like we did in orientation. At last minute it was switched to a roach motel, people took pictures of bed bugs, roaches, blood on sheets. Super nasty. I got us a room at Comfort Inn, they ended up reimbursing us for the room.
Another thing at this point ALOT live loads. I was told mostly drop and hook.
1st run- Valdosta (pick up) live load (3.5 hours wait) to Plainsfield (drop and hook) no trailer to swap. Diverted to live unload. (30 minutes)
2nd run- Pick up Chicago live load (45 minutes) to Drysburgh TN live unload ( an hour)
3rd run. Pick up Memphis live load (4 hours) to Plant City live unload (an hour)
4th run- Tampa drop and hook (trailer had two bad tires) spent 6 hours in shop getting fixed. To North Detroit live unload (currently on)
5th run North Detroit live load to Tampa unknown at this time.
So yea just seeing that everything is not always what they say. They also recently stopped fueling with Pilot and Flying J. Only Loves now, they lost a couple hands full of drivers with this.
Overall it could be better could be worse. Two weeks into training and it's had its ups and downs, just like anything or anywhere else.
(Sorry if this reads wonky just woke up and figured I would do an update before hitting the road)Speed_Drums and Lonesome Thank this. -
Thanks much for the post/info above, in post #58. Good feedback!
With all due respect to your situation described above (bed bugs are indeed disgusting; there's simply no sugar-coating that) -- I think what is happening in your above description is symptomatic of what's going on throughout the industry right now: fleets are struggling with BOTH freight volumes and rates that are in the toilet -- and thus....they are looking for ways to save money and....quite frankly....survive.
What you are witnessing in your description above is quite likely NOT the AMX you would otherwise experience....if freight volumes and rates were anywhere near normal.
I think it's fair to say that AMX is probably embarrassed at what has happened -- one example of possible "proof" -- is they did in fact reimburse you for the Comfort Inn hotel stay/change you made.
Suggestion: Training/getting new "troops" up to speed isn't cheap. With that in mind -- stay the course there as long as possible. You want to make every effort to leave a good impression with these people, so that when/if you do leave, you get good references later from them.
With that said -- I would thus encourage you to make every effort to give them a good return on their investment in you. Business is business.
My first year/18 months sucked, as well -- but for different reasons (obviously) than those listed above.
Your trainers will end up spending FAR MORE TIME in the field with you and your GF there -- than I got after I left orientation.

Overall it's still a very positive experience.
