Werner hit with more than $36 million jury award in its failure to hire deaf driver applicant (yahoo.com)
How could a totally deaf person pass the DOT physical or get a Waiver? And why did Werner even enroll this guy in their school?

The exemptions for deafness started in 2013.
Werner has also hired deaf drivers in the past..

Well, who would have thought that. Seems there are so many other situations where a deaf person would not be able to perform things which we take for granted. One would be trying to get one of the receiving clerks at Walmart DC's to write down what she has to say to the driver.

There’s actually different degrees of deafness. Four degrees of deafness is what I read.
Example..you’re considered deaf if you can’t hear without a hearing aid..
Maybe these drivers aren’t deaf the way we imagine but can get a waiver if they need hearing aids.

To take his money then screw him like they knew they were going to do all along.

Serves them right. They had a chance to settle the case and chose not to. Also, you have a person with a disability, who is willing and able to work and the refuse to hire them.Last edited: Sep 5, 2023

36 million. He should be required to chop off an arm for that amount. Then he can be a deaf one armed man.

Maybe swifts policy of settling out of court whether right or wrong is the way to go .. it seems like Werner is rightfully fighting everything but getting hammered anyways .. courts have been against trucking companies for decades .. a drunk driver pulled a u turn in front of a co worker 20 years ago he hammered the brakes but still killed the driver . Insurance settled out of court for 1.5 million because it would’ve cost them more to fight it and most likely still lose because it was the grandma trying to get money for the 2 kids that were at home at the time..
