Yes. Some companies cannot hire drivers with less than 160 hour of instruction. You would be smarter to find the job you want to work or that works best for you BEFORE you pick the school.

I'm bad about not reading through everything, so hope I'm not just repeating something others have said. If you can while searching for other employment look into potentially working the dock somewhere that also trains after a given time. The market is crap right now for new drivers looking for good employment, but if you can work up into the driver position you can benefit that way.Numb, CDL Licensing Helper and CalculatedRisk Thank this.

Look, it doesn't matter what your work history is, you don't even have to have one just a means to justify the time and some proof. The company has to document the attempt to verify the work history and that's it.ducnut, carter93, lual and 1 other person Thank this.

May want to check a different school. I do not get a good vibe from the contract provider (Regen Trucking School) for the school you referenced.
This one looks like it may be a better fit for your needs. Based in Cadillac.
Now that you know some questions to ask may want to start a conversation and get their guidance.

Thank you all again for all the helpful info. Indeed, the FMSCA requirement isn't as dire as I thought; most of my "unemployment" is explained by the long wait for my Green Card. I can get people to attest to this and provide other documentation so potentially a non-issue.
Appreciate the heads up about the school. Pinnacle looks a lot better and they seem approachable so I'll give them a call and ask their advice. As I said I'm happy to pay cash and travel further for better training/opportunities, so I'll make sure I shop around before committing.Chinatown, CalculatedRisk, Blu_Ogre and 1 other person Thank this. -
Sure, come join the party. There are thousands of illegals and undocumented foreigners out here driving trucks.

You’re required to speak and understand English to get a CDL
We all know there are lots and LOTs of foreigners who can’t speak three words of English driving big trucks .
we see them everyday at shippers and receivers and truck stops .TurkeyCreekJackJohnson and Dennixx Thank this. -
By his opening post, his command of the English language and punctuation is way above most that were born and raised here.
