Right now the industry is slow and there are probably more applicants than jobs so someone with something that, in the past or a year from now, wouldn't be a big deal is enough to get you passed over.
However, 2 years is a decent gap in emoyment. It may be companies find a 2 year gap suggests you are not driven to work hard, pardon the pun. It may also suggest an applicant that used drugs or was doing unsavory things. Don't believe fantasies about driver shortages. Those are PR excuses.
Make sure you have a short, believable, documented explanation you can show an employer, not just a "you can look it up if you want" approach. -
Trucking has been in a slump for a year or two. Different regions & different tupes of trucking are having different types of a slump.

To turn the tables (at least, somewhat) on the current less-than-fragrant job market -- saddle up, take the advice Chinatown offered back in post #13, above -- and go get those CDL endorsements (tanker, hazmat...& doubles/triples).
Those endorsements are door-openers -- and money-makers!!!.....

Expedited Freight in Post #33
Fuzzy_Barefoot Thanks this. -
IT IS right next to Detroit, they share a border.
OP, go to the Michigan Works in your area, go ask there for help. They have a job bank they can search through. the two years if accounted for (surgery, recovery, etc. ...) are not an issue, just be honest put down what happened, and leave it at that.Fuzzy_Barefoot and lual Thank this. -
Even thought you're new -- don't be intimidated to try tanker duty (this one is food-grade):
Midwest Dairy Transport -- hires & trains new CDL holders -- milk & dairy are recession-resistant freight

Why would it be slow? And is there any end in sight?
You must not have read the post well I never took a “you can look it up if you want approach”.
