Hmmm, you just reminded me of this. I forgot to mention this earlier - the check valves in the primer pump.

There are two check valves in the primer pump, each about the diameter of a dime. Somehow one can flip over and the truck will barely run - if at all. This probably isn't the problem if the primer pump is working, but it only takes a minute to pull the top off and check. If they look identical - one has flipped over.

I've checked everything from tanks forward. It all appears to be good. I'm still betting on the pump. I got the transfer pump in yesterday and am trying to install it. I noticed that the new pump has resistance when I move the plunger up and down and the old one does not. Also the new one is not seating on the inj pump. Do I just keep barring the engine until it finally seats or is there an easier way. Not a lot of room to ratchet and I can only turn the engine a 1/4 inch or less. That and it won't stop raining. I'm about to loose my #### out here...

Don’t force it or pull it up with bolts. There are 2 different pumps 1 number apart one has longer snoot that other. Even the right pump has to fit the hole right. It’s kinda line a dowel pin

I would never force it. I did compare the plunger lengths. They are the same. As I barred the engine I could feel the cam lobe turning inside the inj pump with my finger. Logic tells me to keep turning until the "flat" side is down which would allow it to seat. I hope to get a chance to work on it today. I have some Trucking to do here in a bit and of course it's still raining. I no longer have the luxury of a shop. I guess it's tarp time.

So all installed. I went ahead and replaced pre transfer pump lines as well. Same problem still. Engine runs on hand prime these sputters out. I can keep it running if I pump the primer but o ce I stop it dies. Primary filter is a fs1212 and secondary is a 1r-0749. Both are new. I pulled the hand primer and it only looks like 2 ports. Could the filter base be bad? Where are the check valves in the filter base? Anything in the inj pump that maintains pressure? What am I overlooking?

It can’t be in the hand primer….or it would not run when pumped by hand. If the valves in the primer flip it won’t pump. If it’s top draw you have a broke stand pipe if it’s bottom draw you’ve missed something. Take the line from the suction side of lift pump drop the other end in a bucket see if it runs.

I got a chance to mess with this thing again and I put the hose on the suction side of the pump in a bucket, primed it and it fired right up, ran about 10-15 seconds and died out the same way. I feels to me like there is suction right up until it dies. I know this 8pn has very little as far as electrical goes as far as fuel but should I check anything there? The solenoid has 12v going to it. What's next? I'm at a loss here
