I am looking to drive for someone who is willing either to state up front how route planning is conducted (preferably with corporate policy/guidelines), or else is willing to give me fairly broad *discretion over the matter. I specifically need to verify ahead of time that you have a solid commitment to always keep a sufficient amount of time scheduled to allow defensive driving with full following distance and collision avoidance for expected/regular traffic patterns, or else that you and/or your customers understand the risks involved with tight schedules and are taking full responsibility for "delays" or "service failures" resulting thereby. An accurate understanding of this matter will tell me what the actual work expectations are, if I can properly offer to take a job, and what sort of company you are (this may be just-in-time delivery experience talking).
(*) My preference is generally to favor running at night and/or in remote areas when and where there is not much traffic around to interfere with me, but if you place high value on collision avoidance and you'd rather keep defensive driving in places where it is likely most needed, I can do that.
I have seven years of experience of local driving. Said experience was almost exclusively dry-van/no-touch/just-in-time/cross-dock deliveries for auto manufacturers. The latter part of the 7 years did occasionally involve some load securement responsibility. Home is Southeast Michigan. I do require all Sundays off-duty (hometime is preferred, but not required). I do expect equipment to be maintained properly. I do stay on top of pretrip inspections and have problems repaired (even if the job is very local, never encounters a scalehouse, and I am the only one checking things out). I have a class A license, but do not have any special endorsements. If you do slipseating, I'll need either strictly enforced non-smoking rule or strictly enforced tractor designations. I do my best to maintain driving habits which are conducive to various specialized jobs and am open to such opportunities (and may even prefer to do so if that is what it takes to ensure that the above-mentioned defensive driving considerations are respected), though probably will need additional training and/or certification if considered for that.
I do not have any drug, alcohol, or crime issues. I do not have any recent accidents. I do not have any reportable accidents. I do not have any recent DOT inspections (and no recent tickets or warnings). I do not have any moving or parking violations.
I am currently not driving, but have been active over the past three years (was recently trying to get out of the industry, but that plan doesn't seem to be working out). I recently re-certified for driving (both the license and physical).
I think a Midwest regional OTR job would be most suitable to ask for (based largely on the problems I am trying to avoid), though if you can keep me satisfied on the relevant points listed above, I am quite open to your needs.
