Some would say that's good
Some would say that's crap
Depends on so many things. Marital status, living arrangements, Bill's etc.
Even the I wont get out of bed, for less than xxx dollars per mile crowd.
Would take if it was sleep, eat, ####, shower at home every night and week ends off.
Why do people say the pay is low?

Live in a state with no state income taxes also adds to how much you keep of you paycheck.

As a new class b driver who truly made #### wages at my previous job, I think trucking jobs pay well. The caveat being that you have to work long hours, it can be physically demanding and you’re sacrificing time with your family if you have one. I figure I’ll make about $60k-65k/year if I figure in overtime and bonuses. I’m not making 6 figures but I’m not destitute

That's how I feel. My background is in IT and most of the IT jobs I've looked at here are paying $15- $20k less than you're making, and most want a degree and years of experience. If you don't mind the hours it seems pretty good relative to whatever else.
There's a lot of people saying the same; made crappy wages so I got my CDL and now I do pretty good. Can't sniff at that. -
I think it’s about perspective. When you’ve spent many years of your life making crappy wages and are just barely scraping by, as I did, all of a sudden a trucking job with better pay and job security sound good. I’m not exactly thrilled about working in the garbage industry but I have job security, have some autonomy, and make great money compared to my previous job. I’m always tired and filthy at the end of each day but I’m a lot happier.
Just remember, if you get a class A you don’t have to do OTR, that is unless you’re chasing the money.Gearjammin' Penguin, tscottme and carter93 Thank this. -
pay is never good for new drivers
-
The pay rates quoted me for new drivers don’t scare me at all.
-
a trucker could be paid a million dollars a week, and he'd still gripe it's not enough.
stay away from other truckers at the customers, and the truck stop counter when you have your meals..find a booth, maybe even wear earphones and listen to music instead of griping truckers.tscottme, 88 Alpha and CalculatedRisk Thank this. -
I was quoted .70cpm teams from one company split for all miles driven after training. The pay in that company is $725 per week for 180hrs, then $850 for phase two which is another 180hrs.
Another company said .42cpm for solo after .22cpm for training for six weeks. Personally, after working with the public and in the office, Id like some alone time. I am not a people person; hence why I am able to get current job done is a timely manner. I do not bs around and do not have time for that.
