Hello everyone glad this site is here, it should help me with information. I have had an A CDL for over 10 years. I owned a rental business that required it. I do not have any OTR experience though. Any suggestions on companies to talk to or advice is more than welcome.
My background is business and operations management for the last 15 years or so. Due to one of many buy outs, IPO's, mergers, etc. I again find myself looking for work. Many times I have considered OTR trucking but have not taken it up. I now feel that it is time to do it. The main attraction is getting away from the corporate grind, traveling on the road, and steady dependable work.
Fortunately I live well below my prior income level and can afford the reduced pay. I am targeting a minimum of $500.00 net per week. Of course more would be better, I always plan for the worst and work towards the best. If this is not realistic then I appreciate folks letting me know from their experience.
I am also not interested in a school. I would expect I will have to spend time with a trainer regardless of the company I go with. Going to a school when I am already licensed and have experience driving is not acceptable in my mind.
Now back to reading threads and learning.

More than likely you will need a school or at least a refresher.

Welcome to the forum Bobby! In the short time I've been a member of this board, I've noticed quite a few things going on that, from what I've read, are making it difficult for a CDL holder with no recent OTR experience. I hope some of the folks here that have some hands on experience with this issue will come behind me and give you some advice and caution. Good luck to you!

Yep, a school or refresher...
I've had my cdl for 20 years, with 8-9yrs OTR and just under the 1million miles mark logged. But since I haven't driven in over 5yrs I'm having to go back through a driving school just to get a refresher...
