just around 1AM this morning (Thursday Sept 21) a flat bed trucker must have been hauling arse, around the Thurbers Ave curve in Providence.
anyone familiar with this area and that curve KNOWS you do not speed on it.
his load shifted, and a strap broke, causing all of his 46,000 pounds of granite slabs to fall off.
several cars were involved in this as well.
the highway was gouged badly.
he will be paying for all damages of course.
temporary repairs were made to the highway, but they will return to dig it up, and lay down a permanent repair.
all across the highway, his crap was, shutting down the entire highway on that north bound side way past morning rush hour.
so tell me, a strap breaks.......sounds to me like he didn't have many straps on in the first place.....then speeding on that curve. state police said he was given a Level 1 inspection at the scene.
i hope his insurance company drops him (or his company) after this payout......don't forget, he also lost all that granite.....too.

Have you ever hauled slabs like that on wooden a-frames before? I have, sometime the a-frame can collapse with no warning. Once that happens it’s unlikely the edge protection will stay in place.
very possible speed was a factor, I would even say it most likely was. But that’s for the officials to determine.Bud A., exhausted379, Tb0n3 and 4 others Thank this. -
BIG signs saying curve ahead, slow down......
i have personally witnessed thousands of truckers pushing that envelope on that curve.
countless jackknifes, and roll overs...Kyle G. Thanks this. -

so that’s a no to ever hauling that load?I used to haul glass on a frames as well, even lost 12k through the side of the trailer once. Any guess on how fast I was going? Around 5 mph. I was in third from a dead stop. Sometimes you just have a real bad day.
Thousands? Do you set up a chair and watch them for days on end?Bud A., Old_n_gray, exhausted379 and 2 others Thank this. -
screwing up like he did.???...like shutting down the interstate? gouging/tearing up a road..??
causing cars to get severely damaged.????
nope, i never made any sort of mistake like that....
he should have known better.
i hope his insurance drops him. (or his company) -
why yes, yes i have set up a chair, a Barcalounger in fact, with a fridge near, and a pizza oven.

That curve used to be a lot worse before they redid it in the early 80’s. The old curve wasn’t even banked correctly!
