maybe that depends on the actual age, the state, the parent, the trucking company..??

one company i worked for, a child had to be 13........others i worked for 10.......

and you had to be the parent or legal guardian.

Every company has their own policy. Ask your Safety Dept if they allow riders and what requirements must they meet.

the o/p has another thread about finding accident reports from 2014...

One thing is for sure, if you are a company driver.
The insurance will not cover an unauthorized person.

I know at my company if you have an unauthorized person in the truck you will probably get fired on the spot.

My dad was a spotter / city driver and used to take me with him sometimes (early to mid 60s). Cant say I recall ever being out on the street but I spent a lot of time sitting on milk crates in the spotter. Union co in St Paul.

It is in the FMCSA regulations, no one without the COMPANY'S permission and separate insurance on the person.

392.60 Unauthorized persons are not to be transported.

My insurance company will not allow anyone under 17 in my trucks without both parents or guardians in the truck because of safety.

It's always against policy (and federal regulations) to bring unauthorized riders. Get it cleared with your Safety Dept. and you'll be all right.

    tscottme Thanks this.

When I rode around with my old buddy, who used to be an owner operator, I had to get a riders pass, signed by his insurance company in order for me to be on his truck.
