PTL Pays CDL-A School Graduates More
At PTL, we value our people. So, after you graduate from truck driving school, come to us.
Mitchstock Thanks this. -
My CDL school never asked . I know there are plenty of trucking companies out there, including ones that hire felons but I am not sure how many of these companies will hire new CDL holders right out of school .
-
The reason I obtained my CDL is because the research I did led me to believe truck driving was one of the highest paying careers for convicted felons .. and I am sure it is .. I am just having a little trouble finding a company besides a mega that takes new drivers fresh out of schooltscottme Thanks this.

Mega's are fine for new cdl school grads and felons. Personally, I prefer mega's and other large trucking companies. I don't want to be known by my name; just pay me correctly, even if it's just by my truck number or employee number. I'm not working there to make friends; just pay me because I have my own social connections and don't need or want any help in that area.

This is a question that has no universal answer. If you are hauling rubberized dog crap out of Omaha to Nowhere Texas, most carriers will not care. The things that are going to trip you up are things like entering Canada and hauling sensitive freight like ammo etc.
If you were convicted of ANY of the offenses listed in part A on this WEBSITE, you can forget about getting a TWIC and Hazmat endorsement EVER. If a carrier needs you to have either one they won't be able to hire you. Then look at the part B offenses! If your conviction involves one of these offenses in the past 7 years you can't get TWIC/Hazmat until that period has elapsed.
Another issue that can trip you up is being under indictment or still serving Parole/Probation. Then we have the last one. If you are on a state sex offender registry beware you don't have full freedom of movement in all the 48 lower states, even if you have finished your sentence.201 Thanks this. -
Forgive tscottme, a lot like me in that, to a seasoned driver, it's unthinkable for a felon to be driving a truck. Years ago, we abstained from that activity, mostly because we feared it would affect our job,,and it would have. The site gets an increasing number of posts like yours, and a couple reasons. The industry has changed dramatically, and people with less than stellar records are indeed driving trucks, and doing a great job, I might add. The shortage of drivers actually works in your favor, and you will find a job. Coming here was probably your best idea yet. Best advice I can give at an interview, keep your mouth shut, let them ask the questions. Not sure how to handle your situation, your history goes to the Pentagon for life, regardless of what they tell you, and a felony will come up on any background check, for ever!. How they deal with it is beyond me. I suppose you can only hope the truck company president has a similar past.Good luck.Chinatown Thanks this.

Dump truck companies, in most cases, hire felons. Those count as driving experience also.
Probably quite a few of those around OKC.tscottme Thanks this.
