Can you please tell me how you're able to get your body to adapt to being nocturnal? Were you naturally a night owl before? Do early bird type people adapt to the schedule ever? Do you have total blackout curtains and soundproofed home to sleep during the day? What about bright light exposure? I've listened to some health related podcasts that talk about how horrible graveyard shift and shiftwork is for ones health. That said, I would entertain linehaul personally if only for a year or two.The Crossword Trucker Thanks this.

Its every bit as bad for you as those podcasts told you.
For some folks is easy and maybe not even unhealthy but if you are and early bird like me , its a stone cold killer.
I did graveyard in the service and it was brutal but I did get used to it.
The big trick is to sleep the same schedule even on your off days, switching back and forth is really unhealthy
Also you need to have a very regimented eating schedule
In my opinion its not worth it unless you are a night owl -
The regimented eating schedule would probably be the hardest part. I was never able to eat the same time everyday when OTR. Maybe dedicated it would be possible? I guess I'm an early bird. I've been mostly waking up early for the past decade. When I was a teenager and into my early twenties I could do the night owl routine regularly, but I think everyone can at that age, and it doesn't necessarily indicate your ability to succeed at adapting to that lifestyle later in life. With linehaul how could you make it work? Maybe you'd have to invest in a lightbox to wear for a half hour prior to starting your shift.

24/7. No such thing as a ten hour break , equipment is crappy 85% of time, you think pulling up to get loaded is long now , you’ll waited 3-4 hours just for sand. Another 8-9 to get unloaded. You sleep w one ear open one closed. There very unsafe drivers that will run you off road to get loaded first or to get a load.
You won’t make big $$$&FLHT, Voodoo Pyg and F4T6UY Thank this. -
I make decent money in the oilfield. I say decent not big. Nobody ever got rich behind the wheel of a truck. At least not from that alone. However the oilfield has provided what I would consider to be a comfortable livingRodeorowdy Thanks this.

I feel the oilfield can give you an awesome life IIIIFFFFFFF you don’t get caught up in the money and stick to a schedule.
Most of my guys have switched to 4/2 week schedules and that gives the ability to have decent home time and still make 100+ k per year. -
