It's not at all difficult to pull a legal 18 - 20 hour day these days. All ya gotta do is do split shifts. In a dock you KNOW will take 2 - 4 hours? Off duty, take a nap. Sure, that's kinda sucky for the rest of the week, but it CAN be done...as long as you TAKE THAT NAP!

Is it wise? Not if done on the regular. One thing is for sure: it's ALWAYS a choice. The only ones forced to do things like this (legal or not) are weak-minded OR have records so crappy Western Express would deny employment. I wouldn't even give rookies a pass, since this is one of the things schools and trainers beat into a newbie's head.

DIJ reversed a payroll check that was direct deposited into my checking account cause I bailed on them and left the truck at a truck stop. Well 15 months later I got a letter from the Illinois Department of Labor saying they were ready to have a Zoom meeting for the Grievance I filed against DIJ Corp.... 2 days before judgement day, Attorneys for DIJ Corp. sent me a Zelle payment for the full amount I was owed for a week of work they owed me for.
The owner of DIJ Corp is a piece of s h i t.
The following year after they sent the Zelle payment DIJ Corp tax people sent me a W9 for nearly $ 9000.00 more than the Zelle Payment. Talk about a PIECE OF #### SCAMMER....

that's ok, I got my money....... It's the people that didn't get their money or were not smart enough to file a grievance with the Illinois Dept of Labor

I have worked for these types back in the day, and you either run hard or you wont be dispatched. But your correct in the bottom line it's your CDL on the line. And whem DOT does come in they will all through the driver under the bus. I worked for IWX back before ELOG's and there saying was fresh 70 in every book. And when DOT came thru they tossed all the hard running drivers out the door. So I get it, but drivers it is your choice to cut the losses and run.

It's real easy to sit behind a keyboard and tell everybody what you would do, not as easy when your the one in the seat, and its our paycheck they wont pay if you leave. A driver can't turn them in DOT will hang the driver also. Best to cut your loss and walk away before someone gets killed,

Apex Bulk out of Adelanto CA used to over dispatch everyday, back in the mid 90's. You would literally be falling asleep in rush hour traffic, very scarey stuff. I eventually left them because of it. We'd roll out around 4:30 or 5am and get back home at 21:00 or later. Theonly way to end it is to cut your loss and walk away. Funny they are the most legal running bulk company in the area now that DOT discussed it with them.

The comapny owners will tell you, I just pay the fine and still make plenty of money on top of the drivers backs.

When I did produce I would use the delayed loading times to sleep, first I would call all the packhouses I was picking up at, go get the ones that were ready, and camp at whom ever had a delay so I could roll once loaded. Back then everything was paperbooks. There was several packhoses that would not time stamp the truckers copy of the BOL, or sometimes the BOL was dated for a day or two before the actual load time. It was not uncommon to run from Salinas to Cheyenne before taking a nap. Seems back then everyone seemed to run that way.
Personally I think elogs is one of the best things to happen to the industry.

Probably. If they'll cheat for you, they'll cheat against you too. Crooks are crooks. If an outfit has 100 drivers and they cheat them all by just 10 dollars a day that's a 1000 bucks a day free and clear every day they operate. It adds up.
