You're right about the smorgasbord of mom and pop truck stops. I used to stop at Shoemakers all the time on the east side of the state

I was thinking as I drove around the guys ranch, man I'm glad it's not wet an raining. I woulda been a waiting for it to dry out. Woulda been real easy to get stuck. I drove around to the bottom side 1st cuz that's where the lane led me. Didn't realize that there was a dump pad buried in the weeds above the bins. The guy only gets 3 or 4 loads a year. He only keeps cattle during the winter. Was a super nice guy too. I am gonna deliver in sharon wi in the morning. Reload at muscatine an go home. Gotta deliver an reload in ky on Monday. Deliver Tuesday in south Carolina.

I've never ate at shoemakers before.

Question for you all: How far can the 'decoupling groove' and outer edge of a steer tire safely wear down? I know it's not a major tread groove and it's not subject to tread depth, but wasn't sure when it's due for a replacement. It's not wearing super quick, but there's a fairly noticeable change on a weekly basis.
Also, what causes the discolored 'ovals'? It's not wire or anything crazy, obviously, but they've appeared and gotten bigger over the last few weeks. Feels the same as the rest of the tire. Wasn't sure if that was any concern or just the composition of the tirebryan21384 Thanks this. -
That tire is junk. Get through the shop and tell him to change them. I can't believe they didn't spot that before now and already change it they used to change my Steer tires when I was there at the drop of a hat. I can't answer your questions that you were asking except to tell you that that tires donebryan21384 and Thrasher28 Thank this.

I needed a jump start this morning. And would you believe that after asking four different truck drivers who all had an excuse as to why they couldn't help a four-wheeler helped me. Simply Amazing. Going to have to get my batteries tested to see what's going on cuz that's the second time in a couple weeks where I've had an issue with it.

Yeah, hoping they'll get me down 44 soon. The other steer tire is still almost brand new after the previous one went down. Pretty good opportunity to align it and replace this one and be good for 100k+. Even though it wasn't my fault, I've had so many trailer repairs and tires replaced that I feel guilty asking to get routed by the terminal for a new tire and alignment lol. Have only been by the terminal once in the last month and that was a Friday at 17:00, so I just rolled with it due to time. I'll give it a few more days before I request to get routed through the terminal. I kept thinking I'd end up on 44 and could just swing by.
Pretty bad how hard it is to get help with anything. I don't know if it's selfishness or people being scared of doing anything 'mechanical' with how most companies discourage drivers doing anything more than a light bulb change. This is the best time of year to be replacing batteries, at least. You'll have that fun Wyoming snow in the next few weeks. -
Seriously dude don't sweat that tire. Ask them as soon as possible to get routed through for that tire. Again like I say I can't believe they hadn't seen it already in the inspection bay and replaced it. Every time I always had them replace just one they always ended up a few weeks later replacing the other and well actually they just put a whole set of two onLast edited: Sep 29, 2023

Ended up getting sent a load to Colorado for a Tuesday delivery after I deliver in Mt Vernon in a few hours. Since it's got some spare time on it, I'm just going to let dispatch know I'm routing I-44 to MO-47.
Chris did notice it a while back -- he said 'we'll do a couple more times out and then we'll get it aligned and replaced'. I'll see what they say tomorrow morningbryan21384 and Professor No-Name Thank this. -
That tire is certainly not a great looking tire, but it is drivable. They use Goodyear tires and they wear so quickly, maybe even faster than a Chinese brand tire. They may slap a used one on there if the other one is in good condition. It's a little time on it, because knowing climate, they will try to milk every mile out of it. Once that outer line toward the side wall is no longer visible, thats when they'll change em both. The one deficiency with the shop is that they aren't very good at maintaining steer tire health. They aren't going to align or balance oftentimes until they put 2 brand new steers on there. Since I've been here, I've gone through steers, and it's like after about 120k miles or so, they gotta get replaced.
