I hope this works I'm trying to figure out this site. Long story short I got my Class A endorse: TX in Sept. 2009 and moved to Colorado for a job and the job fell through. I'm back in San Diego and looking for a OTR job. I can't believe all the horror stories I've been reading about trucking companies. Please if anyone out there has years of experience and real concrete information on different companies I would really appreciate anything you have for me.

I'm expecting my first child in Aug. and really don't want to be gone for any longer than 3 weeks at a time. Is this possible with the better companies? I'm looking for the most per mile pay, as is everyone else I know but the question is does running teams really help? Is team driving worth the extra pay? I thought it would just help out since I'm new to this and put a little more $$ in my pocket at the end of the day.

After looking into tons of webistes and doing some HW I have been persuing Watkins~Shepard Trucking and Stevens Transport. Is this a smart move? What other companies would you recommend that I look into being that I live in San Diego? Any help I can get is very much appreciated. Although I'm a new driver I'm a good driver. I have experince with heavy equipment and have a perfect record. Please only serious people with real info.
    Thank you

PM.... Watkins Shepard is a good company to work for, not sure about Stevens . You should contact a W/S recruiter to see how your home time would work out sence your in San Diego. Check it out you could be to far from the Santa Fe Springs terminal to even get hired. Good luck PM

    Sal,

Thank you for your input. I have a call into a recruiter and will hopefully hear something back on Mon. I think they have a term. in LA and one in AZ which would workout ok but I will see what they say on Mon. What about Jesus Christ Is Lord not a swear word? Do you or anyone you know, know anything about this company?
    Thanks again

PM there are several threads on this company. just type them into the search option. If you take the time to read through them, you'll note a trend. Location and position (LTL, Local, or OTR) play a big factor in the perceived happiness of the individual driver.

Overall, I thought they were a good company while I was there.

It's a trucking company, I'm assuming it's a smaller local company but not 100% sure. The 100 mile term. deal is interesting. Thanks I'll check it out.
    Thank You

Thank you for the heads up. I have been really trying to look into the trucking industry as a whole and I find it hard to believe it's as crazy out there as it is portrayed. I'm starting to think that it kind of depends on the individual who is making the comments. Kind of scary though. I'll keep researching.
    Thank You

Oh...... it is that crazy out here. And getting worse by the day. What the company won't do, other drivers will.

There are improvements being made in every area. But those improvements can't come fast enough.

I was reading an ad from a company this past week, offering up to .355 a mile. Less than 18 months ago, this company paid up to .425 a mile.

Fuel prices are rising again....how long before that ad says up to .295 a mile ???

    You be the judge.

I checked out some of your photos and you have hauled some pretty cool stuff. I noticed you have worked for ats? Living in San Diego would that be a company first you recommend and second is their a term close to me? I really appreciate all your input and time.
    Thanks

If you have heavy equipment experience I would look at a company that hauls their equipment to job sites and at least home on weekends. A lot of drivers can't or don't want to do real work. The quicker you specialize the better off you will be.
