Idiots think they will ever finish a lease with Central and own the truck. Sure, I guess a few do. But for those that do, it has nothing to do with them being good at business and everything to do with getting the miles.
You cannot be independant when your miles are controled by someone else.
    ....
Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

    Chrome,
I can certainly be an "India Delta 10 Tango". I reread yer comments and disagree.

It is everything about business. The better you are the more likely you are to succeed.
We are all human. We hopefully are learning every step of the way. Despite our weaknesses, stupidity and just lack of knowledge we can eventually collect a paycheck. We work for a company who must make a profit to stay in business. As either company or owner operated we must make that company profitable or we cannot succeed. The extra burden is if you choose to be "your own business" either owner operator or Godspeed, Lease Operator.
I hope your chest is lighter, but independence is separate from whom controls your mileage. Mileage is always a factor of the customer.

Yeah I met one today I taught him his MAC 13-16s Apparently he was mac 13 and then mac 16 at his 01. Also explained to him how to chain up even though we were in a dry yard in CA. He was also wondering why 4 different people are responding to his Mac 31 when he wasnt using "reply". We had the same trainer (different FM for a while) and now the same FM.

Chrome is absolutely Right, You cannot be Independent when the company you Lease the truck from control your miles!

We were one of the ones who were going to own the truck after the Lease was finished we lasted almost 2 yrs!!

i wouldn't call it lack of business sense. it's called lack of miles. you need 2500 miles a week just to make the truck payment. miles you have no control over. anything less and you get a big fat negative. PLUS, that draw the company gives you so you can eat for the week.

kind of hard to succeed if the tires aren't moving.

Very true.. But I was firguring.. No taxes are held out.. Just fees for your truck and truck payment.. Well let's say for example.. Everything included in your truck and payment cost... 800 bucks a week.. Not including fuel, breakdowns, emergencies or anything.. But just 800 for what central needs to be good on their lien... 1000 miles is needed..

Granted.. If you only get 1k.. You can't pay for fuel or that advance ya took... Or the taxes you need to collect... But to be fair.. Only around 1000 ot 1300 is needed to "cover" your truck payment.

I too was ticked. I contacted the customer to see if I could deliver early to this "National Account". Talked with dude named Jeff. He didn't think they could squeeze me in and might charge more to unload early. ####, when I was part owner and a truck showed up early....we thanked the driver?????

Well I'm sitting here in lovely Duncan, Ok. I specifically asked if this was a D&H and was told it was. Well it isn't and now their trying to tell me that they would never, ever lie to a driver. Well crap!! My last fuel stop was in OKC and thats where I live. Think I would have come down here if I had known otherwise? Could have been spending the night with my family. :( :(
