Buying a new truck and considering the Gen 5 DD15 505 1850 vs DD16 500 1850. What can I expect for fuel mileage between the two engines? 80,000 gross with the Dt12 transmission geared for fuel economy. Which engine is more reliable? Will the DD16 last longer at the same power rating as the DD15?

Be interesting, I have had 9 DD15 in western stars very little issues. I don’t idle
APU’s are a must. I also stay very proactive on maintenance. All of mine have had 18 speed and 3.25 or 3.08 gears.
I just ordered a new western star with the DD16 and 6 year /600k warranty with towing. Wasn’t cheap. So how it goes.
Gen 5 going back to simple fixed turbo no more VGT.
My trucks are generally holding at 7.4 mpg in summer and about 6.5 in winter pulling van. 250” WB

Redesigned version to meet GHG21 emissions. Different turbo, pistons, and after treatment system.

The Gen. 5 is ####ing junk cons constantly having active regen which is killing my fuel economy.. I had a 21 Cascadia is Cascadia DD15I regularly got high 8 slow nines fully loaded. In anywhere from 10 and a 1/2 to 12 Bob tale and empty. And I drove 65 miles an hour everywhere pedal for everywhere petal to the metal. I've got a 22 Castanea with the gym 5 in it. It constantly does active regions which brings my fuel mileage from 8 to 8 and a 1/2 down to the sixes. I've about had it with this piece of #### and it's only been 15000 miles I'm about to put it in a field and torch the mother####er.. Don't mind the typos I'm using voice text

That's going to kill Jake performance, isn't it?

Didn’t get new truck, Daimler cancelled my order back in Dec when they decided the 5700 was to be terminated.
I was wondering how the gen 5 was doing?. Some of you have answered that with a resounding FLOP!

They never had vgt it was an asymmetrical turbo. But yea I noticed that the Jake's aren't as strong as it's only about 15psi when full Jake's are on. The normal dd15 with the asymmetrical would have been about 25-30 psi.

I work on Detroit engines for a living. Gen 5s are the worst engine Detroit has ever made. Constant overhead issues, we've done several engine swings, some fuel system issues. We've had some head gasket issues. I just tore one down that blew a headgasket in between the liners, which isn't common on DDs.
