That’s 5 miles from home, course I’m not around. I have always told my bunch do what you have to but do not drive into the smoke. On a controlled access with no exit in sight for miles to the south what do you do?

Nothing but row crops for miles all along the delta. That stretch of road is fairly new less than 10 years old. With the price of fuel it’s common to burn the stubble after harvest instead of turning it under. The smoke can be worse than any fog further in the cloud you go the more dense it gets when suddenly you see absolutely nothing. It’s instinct to hit the brakes even knowing the road. Even though the person a 100 feet behind you can’t see you they can still see so they are not in a panic yet. Traffic is generally spread out fairly well on 67 but it has its days. Since adding that section it’s become the main entrance to Jonesboro. Lots of high speed people in a hurry bustling through there. I agree 30 and 40 don’t need the smoke for trouble to break loose. That part of 67 is going to earn its own reputation

Not much they can do about it Especially if they called in 1st to the local LEO and said they were going to do a controlled burn . ..It's consider land mangement.. Just like @wore out said .. you don't drive into smoke .. They do it all the time around home .. burn off Pastures & CRP.. They also do it alot in the Flint Hills of Kansas seen it many times smoke drifting across the turnpike.. theres even signs up stating .." Do Not drive in to smoke "

They do no till. They just don’t want to drill into the stubble. I have had it explained why a few times, but Grand Dad was a farmer not me and it went straight ### over my head lol

    Not to derail the thread
But even if there is no-till practices
The previous crop residue is a issue. If there is significant stubble or trash it prevents the ground from being able to dry or warm enough when you plant the next crop it also Drastically affects the emergence of the crop you are planting
Thats the basics of it in a nut shell.
