Yellow Freight closure thread

Deadline to enter the auction for rolling stock is Oct 13, with the actual auction Oct 31.

All other 'real assets' in Nov 19, actual auction Dec 12.

Looks like everything might be wound up by end of the year.

Former Yellow drivers are being denied jobs over previous union ties
This was predicted by some drivers here.

 

No doubt. Work conditions are to different. They want to be lazy and only do one kind of job instead of taking the bull by the horns and powering through the job. Sad but true in a lot of cases.

 

Might just be that the overall economy ain't so great. I work with a half dozen ex-USF Holland drivers that lost their job with that implosion we're all at a big non-union fleet, in Tennessee a right to work state.

It's also a very different hiring environment than it was years ago. You can't walk in, have a 30 minute conversation with the terminal manager and then pass a check ride and get hired. Now you apply, send in 4 references and take an hour long Myers-Briggs type test. Two weeks later you get a phone interview with a flunky in a call center, then a week later an in person interview with the local manager who sets up a check ride 4 days later. Once you pass that, then they schedule a Zoom interview with the regional manager. It takes 6 weeks to get a yes or no from any reputable place right now. And when you get the 'yes', it's not a real yes. It's a three day a week job with the possibility of work on two more days of being 'on call' for no pay. Or it's "you'll work the dock for half the pay and if a run becomes available you can take it".

That said, I highly doubt that my company will even interview anyone who ever worked for a union. Even if they were offered $1,000,000 just to interview the guy, on principle they won't do it.

6 for now. By new year there will be 5, by may 4.

 

Off hand the only union job that might take those drivers is UPS,and even then they would be starting all over again at the bottom of the pecking order!

 

Do they still have the "S" symbol on the sidebox area of the truck? The last time I saw one was about 20 years ago loading at a foundry near Lynchburg, VA. They were very rare back then too in fact that's the only one I've ever seen in 24 years.
