I am looking forward to this forum. I grew up in trucking from the age of 3, (1969) in Souther California, in a trucking co called Harris Transportation, who hauled out of Death Valley and other places, and seen what real drivers were.
I am saddened now that drivers don't even carry a flashlight, much less tools. Does not matter, many have no desire to learn to use them anyway.
I am a firm believer that anyone can drive a truck, but not everyone can be a truck driver.
So we should ask ourselves this, "What do we want the trucking industry to become?"
Can we once again become the "White Knights of the highway?"
Take some work, but I believe we can educate the men and women in the future of what it really means to be a "Truck Driver", not just someone who drives a truck.

Welcome to the forum, 54kenworth -- I like how you think! It's always nice to welcome veteran drivers here as we have lots of rookies who can benefit from your experience and advice. Yes it is! My dad is Al Ross, and I grew up around Jim Pardue, Charlie, and a host of others. Learned many things. I live in Oklahoma on what was Glen Harris', now Melvins property.

Small world huh?
Hartnett Truck Co. in Adelanto was owned by one of my good friends parents and they were pretty tight with the H&H folks (back then the H&H fleet was 100% Mack)
My step dad hauled sand and powder around here for the better part of 50 years, pulled a lot of Trona loads too. Never worked for Harris though.
Wow memories ...........

I have friends in Terral, OK. and Stringtown, OK, formerly a famous town for speed traps.
But the State of Oklahoma put a halt to that money generating practice.
