In trucking school & have a prehire for stevens transport .I know we get the physical again at orientation and my current med card is 1 year, due to the fact I have white coat syndrome and my bp was like 148/83 not far off, but I wondered if Stevens would hire with that kind of bp or a 1 yr med card? I have lost 50 lbs since Jan and continuing to lose and taking daily doses now of vinegar which I hear normalizes bp. I am not scheduled to report till May! Anyone know if it ends up being a 1 yr card if stevens lets it fly?

When Stevens sent me an email of the packet, I think the medical portion states what your BP should be under. I have the same thing, and I also take medication. It sounds like your under requirement, but your pushing it. Also congrats on the weight loss, that's a job on its own. Be careful not to lose to much to quick. Remember your going to be in a truck 90% of your day, so your body will have to re-adjust to what your doing all over again.
pdw777 Thanks this. -
Stevens blood pressure limits are lower than FMCSA. 138/ 78 is the max they allow for a 2 year card. If you show up with your current BP, you will probably be put on medical hold, until the doctor is satisfied that you can control it, to HIS satisfaction.
Lots of water, reduce salt, a baby aspirin a day will also help reduce BP.
My blood pressure was 134/ 74 in February. Asked what Stevens limits were.
They do issue 3 month, 6 month and yearly medical cards.
They will NOT honor your present medical card!!! You must get one issued by their doctor.pdw777 Thanks this. -
Havent checked it since I have dropped the weight and it is continuing to go off. I feel a heck of alot better, I just get anxious when they are taking my bp! The organic apple cider vinegar daily is supposed to lower it dramatically, so hopefully I am there!

I am considering Stevens. Spoke to them today about the BP issue. They told me the company guidelines are 138/89 or lower.

I was at the limit the last time I got my DOT card.
My dad went to the DR and had really bad Bp.
And since I'm concerned about everything being hereditary (diabetes, dementia (Alzheimers), and now this) I went to the dr and started on a BP medication. I go back in a couple weeks to see how it's been working.
Other then that, cutting back on salt, soda, and generally foods that taste good!

Swap, I hope that you informed your Doctor that you are under FMCSA jurisdiction, and some BP medications are NOT allowed.
You can still eat foods that taste good. You just have to learn to enjoy the taste of food, and not salt additives.
Soda does not raise your blood pressure, but the added caffeine sure does. i have Heart disease on both sides of my family, and know what worked for my dad who lived to 78, when both of his sisters died before 60 of heart attacks.
A good walk every day will also lower your blood pressure by the strengthening the large muscles of the legs to help pump the blood back to the heart. -
the dr I went to does a lot of DOT physicals so i assumed what I was put on is acceptable.
But I will certainly ask at my next appointment.
Is there a "DO/DON'T" list somewhere I can look at?
