If you have a marker light out or a missing mud flap are you oos-done for the day, cancel all loads?
Or would you go full outlaw like me and roll to the fist truck stop and get dirty fixing it![]()
So if I refuse a load due to a failed pretrip ......

I don't believe it's my responsibility to cover the cost of repairing the company truck, especially with the current lack of trust I have in many companies to be reimbursed for the expense. I'd consider taking the truck to the nearest truck stop for repairs if the company is willing to send me an EFS check to cover the costs. However, my willingness to do so also depends on the assurance that I won't encounter a weigh station inspection en route.
I'm hesitant to jeopardize my clean driving record for the sake of the company, only to potentially face a DOT violation and a write-up later on.Last edited: Oct 27, 2023

Why would you want to find a way to continue working where you’re no longer wanted? Seeking employment elsewhere is probably the best solution.

To answer your question specifically...... its called coercion:
https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/safety/co...vers,intermediaries that have coerced drivers. -
What do you guys make of this?

Here's a perspective for you to think about....
Schneider....despite its flaws & quirks....was VER-RY GOOD about solving problems like this....assuming you as the driver brought it to their attention.
On the other hand -- with the last carrier I drove for -- I was constantly working around similar problems as you describe above. I knew sooner or later my luck with the DOT would run out.
So I left (but -- to be fair -- there were other reasons, as well...some of them personal).
If I left -- so can you.
There are just too much other opportunities out there -- especially for an experienced hazmat tanker driver.

No of course not I said above "I only put a truck OOS for anything that a DOT officer can write a DOT violation for. If it can effect my CDL license, PSP, or MVR."
So your position is if you do a pretrip and find that the truck is missing a license plate, its not safety related and is not a OOS violation. So just run with it and if you get a DOT violation down the road, its no big deal to jeperdize your clean psp record. A few days later your company asks you to sign a write up for getting the DOT violation for the missing license plate the company has you sign the write up and tell you not to get anymore violations. This is your position?Cattleman84 Thanks this.
