This is not a thread to bash foreigners. This is not my purpose and please do not post if you just want to criticize Volvo's and jogging suits.

What I don't understand is how many O/O's or independent operators who are foreigners. Obviously they got their experience out of country. But where do they get their funding for their authority, truck payments, etc.? It seems hard enough for an American citizen to go through all this and become an O/O.

It just seems kind of ironic that all the new American truckers are puttering around in slow mega-company trucks while the foreigners go zooming by, coast to coast. There seems to be more and more. Uzbek Express, Punjab On Time, Baltic Carriers.

Again, I don't have anything against these drivers if they are here legally and don't pump up cheap freight. I just wonder how they're getting all this funding, apparently. It used to be that new immigrants qualified for business loans to help them get started. I don't know if this is still the case. That's my only guess.

Most new immigrants don't have to pay income tax for a set amount of time after getting here,....I would imagine that helps,..

If they are anything like the migrant workers here, several will pitch in money and buy a super nice truck. Granted it's parked in front of a shotgun shack, but they pool their resources for a nice truck and they all use it.

I'm not saying this is the case with foreign O/O's but it's certainly a variable.

Probably right about the taxes and several pitching in. A lot of them are more resourceful and look to be in better physical shape than a lot of American drivers.

This should be a wake up call for American drivers, as if there weren't enough signs already.

Well, Welcome to America. Very nice artical, But the foriegners are the only ones that can get a loan from "Uncle Sam" just with a thought of a business plan. We poor ole' americans have to provide for our selves, I wonder if I can move to Mexico and get the same benefits? Yea Right

That link is to the second page of the article. You have to go to the first page.

It's not from the U.S. or American banks, the immigrants form their own "loan clubs." The interest is very high and sometimes they get ripped off, but seems to work pretty well for most. I would imagine there is a kind of wild west approach to punishing those who don't meet their obligations in these clubs.

like when 8 mexican families buy a single house in a formerly nice, formerly white neighborhood? then they park their 15 cars and trucks in the street and front yard?

Although extremely remote, cough cough, there's always the possibilty that maybe some of the drug czar's may be furnishing vehicles at a good rate to some people in exchange for their usage when needed..
