Ok, new driver here getting ready to go out on my first weeks long run. My question is, how do you get to the Wal-Marts to shop? Do you have to bobtail there, do you take your trailer in there or what? All I know is my local Wal-Mart, and there isn't much parking for trailers in there, not to mention trying to maneuver in there with 53' behind me....
If you have to bobtail, where do you usually leave the trailers?
Thanks in advance

There's plenty of parking for a truck and trailer, matter of fact I've seen some Walmarts that look like a Pilot with several trucks spending the night, more newer truckers are prefering rest stops and Walmarts over truckstops. Just make sure you ask the manager on duty before spending the night at Walmarts as a curtisy and thank him so Walmarts continues letting truckers use their parking lot!
edit: Only issue I've found out is a lot of Walmarts front parking lot are hard to get into with a tractor trailer. The rear is easy to get into because they're setup for deliveries but the front lot can be tricky pending on the layout. And if it's not your truck you should never leave a trailer somewhere without the owner's permission! If you're a company driver it will get you terminated!Warpdrvr Thanks this. -
Yeah when I was on the road and needed to get to a real store I would go to wally with trailer and all. Just gotta stick to the Super centers they have big parking lots, the ones that arent super centers are a lot smaller.

What everyone has said on here is right on.
Also, I've managed to find some place to park at places like Best Buy, Lowes, or large grocery stores by parking in back of the stores. So long as you're not going to be there very long, you shouldn't have a problem. Especially if you do this on a Sunday when it is a lot less likely they'll be having any deliveries. -
Yea, lots of trucks park at walmart. I use to work at my local Walmart (go ahead and laugh) and trucks would park there all the time. Some come bobtail, some come with the full rig.

once you get out into the sticks most Walmarts are bigger than the Yorba Linda store.
The comment about walmarts almost like a pilot is so true. The Odessa Walmart on i-20 seems like that. -
Most Walmarts are pretty easy to get in to. Have only seen a couple that I couldn't find a spot and was hauling OD 12' wide and 15'2 high. Lot of these new shopping centers have made it real obvious they don't want you there. Narrow divided entrances, clearance barriers, etc. Got stuck on hwy 6 Loveland Pass for a couple hours. Got back on 70 headed to Rifle and Mother Nature called in a bad way. Got off at Breckenridge. Long and wide as usual. Nasty circle. Into town. No where to stop or turn around. After a couple of miles made quite wide semi U turn in large intersection. Back to convenience store near 70. Just had to park and put on 4 ways. Went in . Found glorious relief. Bought a Snickers and Dr Pepper and back on the road. Really thought I was gonna get cited. Sure got some nasty looks. They make it real clear that Range Rovers, Escalades, Tahoes are welcome and truckers are not. LOL!

Sometimes they're not visible from the highway and you have to go to a truckstop and ask the girl at the fuel desk...hey is there a walmart east of here? usually you're within 10 miles of one and its usually only a mile or two from the freeway......
sometimes they're next to truckstops. i remember one time in oklahoma, i stopped at a loves on a 2 lane road that was next door to a walmart....i parked at loves shopped at walmart even took the cart to loves to unload into my truck. got some funny looks wheni did that LOL
