It's seeming like a dream job. They say that they "don't pay so well for the 98% of what we do... they pay so well for you to know what to do 2% of the time." So basically 98% of the job is a cake walk. Just stay on the regulations so that when the #### hits the fan, you don't get caught with your pants down. Know your ####... that's why you get the big bucks. Seems fair enough to me!

Just ran into this & your new gig.
Would be interesting to follow updates, if I can find time to get back here & if you post.
Had a friend years ago that was an engineer. Fascinating profession that I considered before jumping into trucking.
Best of luck to you in the new endeavors. Hope it is all that & a box of chocolates for you.JoeyJunk and Truckingdaytrader Thank this. -
One thing that is lacking is the online community that is in trucking. I'm happy to keep updating. Thanks for the positive wishes.

That is a great job. I was a conductor with CN Rail for 2 years in Edmonton, Alberta. Loved the job but had to leave as my knees couldn't handle the walking on the rocks etc when switching manual switches or working in the yard/sidings shunting rail cars. I was 48 at the time and have bad knees from my army days going back into my 20's.
I'd have stayed otherwise, enjoy it. It's a great career.FullMetalJacket and JoeyJunk Thank this. -
Yea, I'm 44 but my knees and back are still pretty good. For us we are barely walking outside or throwing switches. We may have to protect crossings or throw some switches in the yard but we only have 1 main track and 1 yard. Our yard with service has a whopping 8 tracks. The hard part for us is dealing with the public. Eventually I'll be an engineer and won't have to even do that too much. Not a hard job at all. I am very blessed and greatful!Albertaflatbed Thanks this.

That's awesome, I was in a main yard, 50+ tracks in the yard lol.
Enjoy it, you are set for life!Truckingdaytrader Thanks this.
