Clearly they have never hauled dry wall or asphalt shingles. Both of those loads will stay on the trailer even if it flips over.

 

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to make you provide something necessary to do your job.

 

It's illegal for a company to make an employee pay for company supplies/tools/resources. It's perfectly fine for a shipper to require a carrier to provide securment devices.

 

Is this how you guys would secure this load? I would normally expect ATS to train their drivers better!

 

While it looks dumb there's nothing illegal about it. It must be a pain in the ### to get those chains tight going around that many sharp corners. Not to mention the side load on that pocket. Wouldn't surprise me when he pulls the pocket wall sideways.

I wouldn't expect anything from ATS. Just another mega putting anybody with a pulse behind the wheel.

I could see issues with having chains rubbing against each other or in the same stake pocket, since you are actually decreasing your wll by doubling up the stake pocket with securement, basically taking around 5000lb stake pocket and making it good for 2500 because of the double securement, those machines are like 9700lbs or so, while still technically being legal because if you did that on both sides of the skid steer you would have 5000lbs of securement in a 9700lb machine. The chains crossing each other in the securement with nothing to prevent them from rubbing together will draw attention and you would probably be made to re secure the load. like said before I watch ats guys do all sorts of dumb stuff securing machines, I don't understand how they make something so simple so flipping difficult
