I've got several cards up my sleeve but I'd like to hear from my friends before I leap. Here's the short and sweet of my situation:

    1) I live about 3.5 miles south of exit 28, I-10 in Mississippi.
    2) There is nothing in my MVR as far back as 1991.
    3) Never been arrested. (Close but no cigar a couple of times. I've got a nasty temper).
    4) Hometime won't mean diddly to me.
    5) Not looking to "run hard". I will if that's what my employer needs me to do, though.
    5) Prefer, at least at this point, 48 states.
    6) If the carrier you would recommend has safety issues....never mind.
    Thanks!:biggrin_25514:

If you need more info, ask away!

Have you tried the big companies, Werner, US Xpress etc....? You live in a great location you have no problem getting on somewhere. What's the issue? Do you have your CDL?

    JustSonny Thanks this.

If your really going to do this,........

I haven't heard anything to bad about Millis,...........And I think they have their orientation and a terminal down south somewhere,....

You could also try applying at any of the local ltl's,.....You never know they might be hiring,...They don't tend to advertise,...

I live in Long Beach, Mississippi. New Orleans is about 75 miles west, Mobile is about 75 miles east, Hattiesburg, MS is about 75 miles north, south is lots of water (Gulf of Mexico).

There's a Knight drop yard (terminal?) about 10 minutes from my house.....not gonna happen. Con-Way has a drop yard (terminal?) in Gulfport but Con-way is looking for experience and husband/wife teams.

I have a Class B now (school bus driver). Will up-grade to Class A with all recommended endorsements this summer through a driving school (probably community college). Werner is a possibility, US Xpress more so!

The idea of a big carrier, even mega-size, is somehow appealing to me. I think I might enjoy just "being a number" ....right at first anyway.

Millis is another possibility. You guys are reading my mind. Thanks for the reinforcement. Con-way has a yard in Gulfport, maybe LTL, looks like 48'ers, or less, in the yard. Con-way wants experience and mostly hiring husband/wife teams right now.
