One of the very first things I ever learned about trucking in general, when it comes to dispatching and they’re communication with you, anytime they’re calling you its because they need something. They need something from you that you’re probably not gonna be in favor of. Or they need something that might bend some type of rule or law or something along this line so they don’t want it in writing, and they want no record of it. Or they want to catch you off guard and ask you a favor. Like running another load when you thought you were supposed to go home or something like that. They get a yes out of you before you realize what you’ve done. This is why they call you. I have a simple rule, and I’ve had it since day one of being a truck driver. I do not take calls from anyone while I’m driving. End of story. Headset, hands-free, or not.

Also, remember, there are no favors as a truck driver. You either do it because you want the extra pay, or a pat on the back, and an Attaboy goes a long way with you or you don’t do it at all. Doing dispatcher favors does not get returned in trucking. Ever. Lol there’s always a next crisis load that they gotta get moved. Always. Whether you’re there or not.

I had a Blue Parrot. Total junk. Consistently dropped calls regardless of cell signal strength. Bought a Levan. Hasn’t dropped a call yet. Sound quality is about the same.

I use AirPods now. They work just fine. Used to use a blue parrot but got tired of how big they are.

I just bought two of those! One for driving and another that hovers over your ear without actually inserting. I'm using that one for working out.

    LG retractable neck buds.

Can't stand anything else being constantly on my head or in my ears.

I have a pretty nice blue parrot. It got used a handful of times and I realized it wasn't worth the hassle for me. I'd be willing to sell it for cheap and ship it if you're not grossed out by a used headset lol. Used for less than 3 hours total.

Only person I ever talk on the phone with is dispatch, broker, or the ol' lady. I call the lady after I'm done driving and just use my phone. Broker and dispatch conversations are short enough to just use the truck Bluetooth. It doesn't sound great, but it's good enough for the 27th ETA check from broker. Air pods are a good alternative too.

I've always wondered who drivers are talking to all the time though. I don't know many people that want to small talk with me at 9am while I'm taking the browns to the superbowl, but to each their own.
