i'm reading that reefer is more profitable than flatbed and dry van but I think one of you told me that dry van might be better because it's more hook and drop and that there could be a lot of wasted time and money from waiting and problems with reefer right? I remember reading that someone said they would never ever do reefer. I guess because of a lot of money lost waiting around or because of cancellations or whatever and malfunctions... Swift is all reefer right? I heard they pay very little though.

if you don't mind me asking, how much did you get per week when you started and then three years later?

You certainly won't make bank there. I started back in 2015 making 38cpm left 5 years later at 54 cpm. Was lucky to clear a little over a grand a week back then. Not sure what they are paying now. They also offer weekly.salary. Its a good.place to.start and move on after a year or so for better $$$. They worked with me during those years because I had elderly parents at home. Always got me home on time and treated me right, good equipment. Lots.of driving out west in the winter, somewhat longer runs, no bouncing around in the northeast with crappy short runs. Sometimes they were bad about not pre-planning me and sitting a day between runs. Overall though from.what I've heard about the other companies u listed I would put May on top as far as a starter company. May has a terminal in Fontana CA. and some.drop yards on I-5 I would also put Crete up there on your list if they still hire new drivers. Heard decent from new drivers there.

Anyone know how much swift is paying new drivers per week that have gone to a private school now in 2023?
What about Werner and May? (Roughly just to get an idea)

It will vary with each carrier -- depending on:
    • the type of freight being pulled
    • whether it's local, regional...or OTR
    • where the load is (some loads pay a premium -- northeastern loads often pay more)
    • whether the load is hazmat or not
    • and other factors
In short -- there are too many variables to say whether this carrier ALWAYS pays better than that one, etc.

When you have your CDL -- plus any endorsements -- you'll have to apply & see which one(s) will in fact offer you something.

Given the present job market for new CDL holders -- the list of interested carriers could be rather short. o_O

    No....Swift is NOT all reefer.

    Swift has:
    • lots of dry van
    • lots of reefer
    • some intermodal
    • some (not much) flatbed/heavy haul
Pay is as described above in previous post.

so you were lucky to clear a little over grand a week back then when you were making 38 cents at the beginning, or later at 54 cents? I need to know how much I will be working when they are training me and when I start getting paid for driving solo.
