You can usually hear worn or missing king pins. It will sound like a knocking sound coming from the front end. On the tire issue, once it starts wearing it will continue to wear unless you replace it

yea i know the tire will still wear i plan to replace them after the aling. but want to make sure i dont need king pins again before i do replace...my truck has the big floats on the front 1200.00 last set i checked on....so i would like to fix the problem before this set....i dont have any sounds coming from the front just a little bumpy at about 35 but i fig. it was the aaling. thats doing it thats cuaseing the tire to wear on the outside...like i said its just the pass. side thats doing it...if i jack the truck up should i be able to shack or move the tire if the king pin is gone...

if u stick a bar in the wheel while its jacked up and try to feel some slack,it should have some if the king pins are bad.just make sure the slack u feel is not a loose wheel bearing.

kingpin wear will be felt by lifting up on the suspected wheel.I don't think your tire will show wear on the outside with kingpins, sounds like more of a toe-out problem to me.Possibly a bad tie rod end.

Just as oneshot said, have someone bar wheels while you watch for movement. There can be a thrust washer between spindle casting and axle that wears, also....

they could have been replaced .....but some kits use plastic bushings which are good if you are gonna get rid of the truck ...cause they don't last long

hay guys i jacked the truck up today and checked both wheels with the long spoon that you use to remove the tire from the rim and it has no play on either wheel from top to bottom...so i think ill look some where else for a aling. this week.. thanks....
