I know this is an old thread, but I had been looking for info on CIT-LA Driving school also as I will be starting school in July using WIA funding and I was looking at schools in my area(LA- don't really want to drive to the valley or Fontana every day). Well I was looking at ASD and Raodmasters and figured I would start the ball rolling while waiting on the WIA money in July, Soooo, I went ahead and paid for my DOT Physical and Drug test($40 at the place ASD uses) and paid for my HAZMAT background check($86.50 had to wait on the TWIC but the use the same check just have to pay another FEE), Got new Birth certificate($28, my old one was in pieces after 50 yrs), and applying for a Passport($135, needed this anyhow!). I have been studying for the last 2 months(on this websites CDL practice tests and another websites CDL tests- I like theirs much better, more info and alot harder) to go ahead and take all the written tests for my permit($68), Went to the DMV yesterday and while I was there a truck with two students and their instructor pulled in to do their driving tests from CIT-LA truck driving school. After the first guy completed his test(And PASSED) it was the other guys turn, I went over to talk to the first guy. He was very pleased with the school, he was learning the heavy equipment and truck driving flatbeds to haul the heavy equipment! It was WIA funded, so he explained alot to me about the school, needless to say I think I WILL go with this school! The second guy also passed! It was great to get first hand info about this school and see there training put to use to pass on their first try! I will update as I get rolling in this school!Last edited: May 31, 2014

Krashdragon Thanks this. -
I know this is a really old thread but how did it go? By the way I don't see CIT on the Cal jobs list anymore. There is a company called Coastal Trucking Institute (CTI) but that one is in Salinas California.

@DexterSaintJock - Hi Desert might work for you. With the flexible schedule, you can probably attend school and keep your current job at the same time.
Hi-Desert Truck Driving School works with many agencies to assist in tuition funding such as the Worksource, Vocational Rehab, E.D.D., I-Train, Workers Comp, and any Grant Vouchers.
At Hi-Desert we offer Full, Hourly, and Day courses for CDL A, B, and Bus Passenger. Our training schedule is very flexible.Last edited: Dec 17, 2023

First thing you need to do is research the companies and trucking niche that you want to get into and how to get there. Trucking schools are pretty irrelevant to tell the real truth as they do what schools are supposed to do. The get you SOME basic understanding, they get you past the required license to enter and learn the profession. Call some of the trucking companies you want to work for and ask them what they require then go from there. You probably will not get into the niche you want right off the bat. So set your goals and try to stick to some sort of long range plan. Go to any school that will get you hired. The school isn't where you are going to learn the industry and or whether or not you're going to make this a career or not.
