Counterbores should still be ok in that short of time. You really should just throw loaded liners in while you have the head off the first time though.

That’s a pretty decent deal. I was figuring 250 per hole on a counter bore, I’d definitely do it if it can be done mobile for that. The only problem would be idk if I can lift that head off with no cherry picker lmao

So with upper gasket set, counter bore, and loaded liners do you think I could get that done for 3-4k ballpark? I know shop rates have went through the roof the last couple of years.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Rates are more relative to location but I would think a shop would charge about 3 days labor plus parts. Do it yourself and it would be much cheaper.

    #### 24 hours.

Ok, thanks for all the replies. Maybe I’ll just buy it and keep grinding my current job until I get there.

    Rideandrepair and Iamoverit Thank this.

For $5k I bet that headgasket will be the least of your worries on that truck.

Don't want to sound a pessimist but popping that head could be opening Pandora's #### box. Could find anything from a cracked head, warped head, warped block deck, cracked block, dropped liners, scored liners, cam/rocker issues, etc. You get the picture.

IMO best to walk away unless you're prepared to do a complete overhaul if it needs it. Unfortunately you won't know what its like until its in pieces on the bench.

Jordonh, Rideandrepair, W923 and 4 others Thank this.
