Just think these officers would be better off working as Border control officers for CBP where they can legally stop a vehicle crossing the international border and search it for anything illegal.

 

If I read the article correctly, the cop said the driver logged "770 miles in exactly 11 hours," and then the cop demonstrates his mathematical prowess by figuring that the driver would've had to "average 77 MPH" to accomplish that feat.

Ahem.

Even the 70 mph average is an issue in most states. CVSA criteria considers any average speed greater that 5 mph under the speed limit to be falsification.

And yes, I am well aware that many of us average right at the limit, especially when deadheading.

 

And IIRC it took legislation to get them under the Iowa State Patrol banner, and now they can legally harass 4 wheelers again.

 

Look, there's no doubt that he was falsifying his logs, but that's not probable cause to search his truck. Which is why he won.

 

Seems they just make up probable cause out of thin air. The k9 with the false alert is very popular with LEOs these days. Had it happen to me in the past.

 

One day in the early 90s a buddy and I were in his pick up sitting at a light in council bluffs and one of the blue boys pulled up next to us , we both casually gave him the finger when the light changed and drove off .
