When I was at Calex, we had a driver named Jimmy. Was the first driver they hired back in the day. My dispatcher Louie called me one day while I was getting loaded in Salinas to meet Jimmy and run back to Scranton Pa together. That lasted the first night. Jimmy was 84, worked off paper logs, no QC, had a flip phone only because he couldn’t find a pay phone to use, and ran my backside into the ground. Got back to Scranton a day and a half before me. Was driving at the time for 62 years. Only made one round a month. Last I heard, Jimmy passed at 91.

Great story. I live in Scranton and I thought it was such a shame Calex put the driver facing cameras in the trucks.

I didn’t pay attention to the driver facing cameras when they had them at Abilene. I knew they weren’t constantly recording. BUT, when you have them and you pick up your phone and a voice tells you, “Put phone down.” & then the next day you get written up for it, that’s a bit much for me. Yes, that just happened with my current company. A lot of things were misrepresented with these folks. But, as I saw what another driver in a thread that got so “whatever” that it got deleted went through with comments, I haven’t said much about my situation. Besides, unless I put the details out there for public dissection, like she did, IMO it’s NOYOB, and even then don’t dog pile on people when they’re down. Let’s just say that the last 4 years have been rough. The last 3 1/2 especially, and just when I feel I see the light at the end of the tunnel, I’m finding out that it’s the train. Just my current situation, not my permanent situation.
