New springs always sit higher then old worn out springs.

I remember when springs used to be heated and re arched.

Don't know if that's still a thing these days.

There’s a very good Spring shop in Des Moines I use called Merrill Axle & Wheel they Custom build and repair springs
I just had them re-arch a brand new set of springs for my 359 they took 2,5” of arch out for me which is a lot considering there was 4.25” to begin with

'72 thru '74, 3 summers 'utility' mechanic at a CLTL shop; chased a lot of parts, always bringing radiators to and from the shop and the camelback mack springs to a shop that had a crane to take them in...LOL

At that time they would repair the spring and re-install. Later they would R & R both springs keeping the good one for the next break to insall a used spring with an old one.

I guess that's because most 'real' spring shops were gone.
