This is a cylinder pack now offered with the updated ring installed....or you have to buy the ring and install yourself.
3406E (S/N: 2WS1-UP)
C-15 (S/N: 6NZ1-UP; 9NZ1-UP)
An improved cylinder pack has been released for engines that are used in high load applications that are listed above. The improved cylinder pack contains a top piston ring that is made from stronger materials. The stronger materials have a proven robustness in order to withstand fatigue, due to high load applications. For only the high load applications that are listed below, replace the 0R-8915 Cylinder Pack Gp with the 10R-8616 Cylinder Pack Gp, in order to provide increased life. High load applications include coal and logging applications. High load applications also include any application with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) that is equal to or greater than 63,500 kg (140,000 lb). -
How would this work in a regular application?

^^^^^^what he said.... seem like it would be good for high horsepower ?????kenw007 Thanks this.

You own a 2WS motor, you should consider yourself very lucky IMO.
2WS 3406E CAT's are one of the most capable CAT engines out there. They can lay down some very serious power and reliable out the whazoo, yours is the very first one I have heard of with any problems. If CAT had it torn apart only 265,000 miles ago, don't you have any warranty left? Request new cylinder kits. -
I have installed this ring on the higher hp builds. The ring is very hard, is harder to install as it does not flex as easy as stock one. Cat upper ring is a keystone style and needs pressure to seal. I would think that the heavy haul ring would need more cylinder pressure to seal to cylinder wall. If you installed this ring in light load application, the cylinder pressure may not be high enough to seal properly.

This ring may shine with a setup like a C-15 ACERT with a high HP/TQ output. It would be interesting to see, especially since many of the ACERTs seem to develope more crankcase pressure than the other CAT engines.

no the warranty was good only for 3yrs or 300,000 witchever came first. the 3yrs was up 1-25-10 i asked for new packs on one of the times they had it apart and they refused.
