Hi, I'm Natalie. I've loved driving my whole life and put quite a few miles on my car every year. The one thing that holds me back is the cost of it. I go about 40,000 miles a year with the car. I've done long individual trips too where I know that I can drive 10-11 hours in a day with no problems. Actually I have 10-11 hours of driving on friday to San Antonio and back. I think becoming a truck driver feels kinda natural and fitting to me. I really want to go into the OTR driving. I figure that I would really enjoy it and getting paid is just like icing on the cake. I've also been trying to learn about the logistics involved like how life works as a trucker.

I've been doing some research on schools as I want to do it as soon as this semester of college is up. Being 22 gives me the advantage of not having family obligations too and with OTR I wouldn't have to worry about paying rent anywhere.

I've been trying to find out information on the WIA grant since apparently you can't get a student loan to cover it. I've been looking at Grayson County Community College even though it was not PTDI certified and the only PTDI ones in the state are like Swift and/or are a long ways away too. I've been trying to find companies to work for but it seems like they are all bad and I get mixed things from everyone. For example one of my friends who's a trucker recommended England but it is filled with horror stories here. I see werner as a possibility. I litterally have a clean driving record. Any thoughts on that would be appreciated.

    Anyways thanks see yall around,
    Sail

Welcome silently, Hope you can get alot of info from this site before you sign those papers of commitment. Driving in a car is nowhere in comparison to a truck. Not only do you have to be careful with your driving but also with everybody around you. Also riding in a car is way much more comfortable than a truck. There are many other advices that can be given but those are just a couple to start. Not trying to deter you from trucking, but just saying to think hard about it. Good luck and again welcome.

Not really a problem. I had a pickup for a while and towed trailers with it. I got to learn to think before I moved lol since it had absolutely no power. While towing a trailer loaded, 65 was the best that thing could do on the flats, hills, thankfully there weren't many but they were slow 30-45mph. It was a little 4 cyl frontier, an 04 with an auto. I'll admit that it was small though and I know in that there is a huge difference. I loved the truck personally. My parents hated it though since it was slow especially in the wind. So it kinda gives me a guess. I know it is nothing like my vw at all. I had also pondered becoming one of those A&M bus drivers while I went to school there.

To my surprise most everything has seemed nicer than I expected and I had ridden in a peterbilt once when they had the open house here in Denton.

Welcome! Don't know what part of MetroMess you are in but Weatherford College has a good driving program. You might even get your tuition paid by WorkForce. it is located at old Ft Walters base in Mineral Wells. I think they have opened a 2nd one in Decatur but I could be mistaken. Stay the Hell away from England and most of the rest of those training companies. Stevens, Werner are bad too. Schneider/Swift are better. Millis Transfer has good school and hauls down this way. Good luck!
