Bob Costello, chief economist for the ATA, was just on CNBC this afternoon & said that tonnage & loads were down 25% last year. He said at least that many jobs were lost ( co. & o/o ); but the economy is finally turning around, & companies will be adding trucks & drivers to move the holiday & seasonal freight. No, he doesn't think the jobs will be temporary.
68.8% of the nations freight is moved by truck; 83.3%, or $660B, of transportation's annual income is from trucks.
Yea, yea, I know, as soon as we see ATA, our fangs come out & we're ready to fight. This guy is an economist; he doesn't care about the DOT, the govt, parking or our personal problems. He crunches the numbers, & they're either there or they aren't. He bases any prognosis on historical summaries,& he says the numbers are there.
Investors believe it too. The truckers' stocks are on the rise. They're up 3.92% year-to-date.

Is this one of the same economist that two years ago said the ecomony was expanding, and stocks would only continue to climb?
Economist have an agenda, or they are stupid. -
No, this guy is exclusive to trucking, hence "ATA".
