I was hired as a driver for a trucking company with the promise of 30% and the company keeps 70% of weekly gross. The problem is the company has never shown me what my weekly gross is and they taking the fuel cost out of my weekly rate. Is this legal?

Why would you even work for a company if you don't trust them? No way would I agree to pay for fuel for equipment I don't own but that's just me.
nextgentrucker, Speedy356 and Peplow Thank this. -
1,234,567th 1099 horror story....

I would suspect that you are working for some shady outfit. You haven't said whether your contract with them is for 30% of the gross revenue or net. I would tell them I need a printout of the revenue and expenses, not that they'll give you the actual ones. Personally I would NEVER work for anyone that expects me to pay for ANYTHING on their truck as far as operation cost unless we were splitting the revue 50/50 and that my friend ain't gonna happen.TripleSix, nextgentrucker, Speedy356 and 1 other person Thank this.

Work for a set dollar value such as $0.65 cpm. Most carriers are deceptive and drivers who sign those contracts allow them to be. Especially when they refuse and manipulate the rate con if given. You as a 'Driver', will never know the true rate con because they're in control. At least with a steady set rate you can gauge your weekly earns.

Percentage pay is off of line haul not fuel, providing your not at some shady 1099 company that’s trying to turn you into their slave
26-30% is average w2 pay with some kind of insurance and retirement -
Sounds to me like they have already done it.
No, it is not normal for drivers to pay for fuel on a truck unless they own it or are leasing it from the company. You should probably quit and find another job.
