At this point you've probably ran it long enough to damage or put some heavy wear on parts.

We got the oil pan off, gear fell off the pump. Nothing else got damaged by it.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
The mechanic said this was a first for them.

Yeah but how much damage was done up top? I'm guessing you ran it for a while with very little oil pressure since you were driving it around a bit. Hopefully the little bit of pressure it was generating was enough to keep everything from running completely dry.

We popped the valve cover off to check, nothing there. I would get 40 psi running and I stopped as soon as I could.
And instead of crawling over to the customer next door I had the truck towed to the shop. -
Good. It would suck if it got toasted.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Especially since I'm too far from my house. Wouldn't want to be paying someone else to overhaul the engine when I just got my forklift back home working again.
Kind of kicking myself in the head for not replacing the oil pump last time I had the oil pan dropped and oil pump off, but what can you do when everything on it looks okay at the time.Oxbow Thanks this.
