#1 Arrive at the motel, place has no record of a reservation for me. Not even in orientation yet and we're off to a good start.

#2 During orientation I see another driver emptying out their truck, said he quit after only a few weeks. I wanted to ask why, but he looked like he was in a hurry to leave.

#3 First load and my phone is ringing constantly, broker wants updates despite the fact that I'm using a tracker app to avoid this kind of nonsense.

#4 Company does not allow idling and I found out the hard way that my bunk heater didn't work. When I tried to leave the next morning the battery was dead. Reported it to the company and they make a passive aggressive comment about leaving key on/lights on. Got my batteries replaced, but company declined APU fix, said they preferred to do the repair in house. They assigned me a truck with bad batteries and no bunk heater in the middle of winter, so I'm not hopeful.

#5 The constant phone calls and micro managing are starting to get to me. I'm waking up to 4-5 missed calls now at this point.

Are you still working there? If so, why? You need to get away from that place as quick as you can.
Can you give us the company's name and where they're based?

Why would you assume I'm still working there? And the company name is right there

    REO6205 Thanks this.

You're right, I missed the company name. Sorry for that.

I assumed you're still working there after reading item number five in your post...you worded it in the present tense so I assume you're still there.
Going back and reading your entire post I see no mention of you leaving.

What's funny is I've been getting Facebook ads about that guys for months now. Some black guy sitting in the truck talking about his much he loves it. From there, I knew it was suspect.

I'm familiar with HMD. They actually are a decent sized company. I think they have like 400 trucks or so. You can do flatbed or dry van. The issues OP are describing aren't really all that different from what other companies do, but I know everyone will label em because of where they're headquartered. If it were me, I would have idled. It's too cold everywhere not to, especially since they won't fix the bunk heater til you get in house. I understand companies have rules, but sometimes as a driver, you just gotta make a judgment call and do what is necessary to be comfortable, or to accomplish a task. I've came across drivers who actually love it there. They look the part to me, they have modern equipment as compared to the typical 1099 small outfit.

Can you confirm if HMD is W-2? Also, is every load a live load or do they have some drop and hook?

    Lonesome Thanks this.

It looks like based on their website they might be W-2. However they’re also in the fleece purchase racket.
