We had a JCT Volvo 2010 780 pull into our yard in Amarillo yesterday to visit the repair shop that shares our yard so maybe things are looking up LOL

Not a lease truck. Its a o/o.
To those of you putting your opinion on who makes better trks, all these trks either have a detroit, cat, or cummins. Transmission thru eaton fuller. Now if either of those things go wrong u can't blame the trk manufacturer for the problem. Now when you consider the frame, cab, electronics, design that will b the manufacturers problem. Paccar builds a pretty good cab for the 379, t600, w900. Their screwup economic trks r the 387 and t2000. The ride isn't as good like most claim. Now internationals ride very smooth. And seems to b very quiet also. Now to freightshaker, it does nothing but shake the freight. Its the most cheaply built trk I've ever seen. There's my opinion

Looks like I might very well be returning to the US soon enough. I know this may not be the form to ask these questions, but I trust your information much more than the other threads as well as your opinions so here goes...........
I will have to start out with no experience....good employment history, all in corporate america for 20+ years, no tickets, law issues or anything of that nature. I am squeeky clean and do have a vaild passport.
Do I stand a chance to get on with someone who will train me? Is this a bad time to even try to start this as a career change being 47 yrs old and the freight being what it is today?
I know I have to pay my dues and trust me I am well aware that it's "ugly" out there and it will be no bed of roses. I am used to being gone for weeks and months at a time so being out that long is nothing to me. My kids are grown and I am single so home time is not an issue.
I had a "pre-hire" with Millis before going overseas, but I guess they are really no different than say Swift, Stevens, USXpress, etc. as it relates to treatment, costs to train to get my cdl and so on.
Is it better to get my cdl and training locally before applying - I will be residing in Lexington Ky - so shouldnt be hard to find a training location I would think.
Help me understand the terms - re-set, 34, 99 etc. I see those but dont really understand them.
Also - your suggestions are vaild with me - give me your ideas of which ones better to try to start with between all the ones that will train someone. I see Stevens has APU's, Millis seems to have less issues, but Swift seems to at least be moving freight(not that I am an expert). USXpress and CR England scare me from what I have read. I know getting a gig like you have will come one day if I do the right things - but a strong work ethic and business acumen are my best qualities so I am hopefull one day to get there - but more than willing to start at the bottom.
I'll take all the information you can/will offer as I do value your judgements. Sorry for the long read.
