I wasn't trying to call you out about how you conduct a pre-trip, just saying, that's gonna be a red flag at the scale house. Same thing is gonna apply with the split-rule. Nobody can understand it, cause you can argue anyways it violates the 14 hour rule. It's why most mega's don't allow it. Hell, most mega's don't allow personal conveyance (line5).
I guess, to answer your question, is do what you feel is applicable to FMCSA Guidelines, and let us know how it works out for you. And a lot of that will be dependant on if you are running paper logs or a digital ELD log and which software you are using. But you are definitely in a grey area, when it comes to FMCSA, Logging, and HOS rules.

Honestly the best thing to do is get as close to your start time as possible so you can start your 14 right where you need to be at a certain date or time. If your unloading and you know they will take 6 hours and you cna do a 10 there is ideal. -
Interesting that the Qualcomm will lengthen the 14 hr clock under these circumstances, because it is then predicting a future action on your part, namely a 7 - 8 hr stint in the sleeper.
But the TLDR answer is that the 14 hr clock is potentially lengthened after a minimum of 2 hours on lines 1 or 2 or a combination thereof. -
@KDHCryo my bad. I’m in a bad mood because I’m trying to get home having been on the road for way too long.
I had to go out 2 hours out of my way to busiest Blue Beacon in the US to get a trailer washout so I can pick up a load and start going home.
Because of traffic it’s gonna screw my appointment time which means I’ll have to be worked in which will take who knows how long. -

@Barricadebouncer... that's why we all do the ELD creep. See if you can park somewhere to complete that 10 hr break without switching over to the drive line. If I can creep out at 4 MPH to finish my 10 hour break it's better
