OK, this is a broad question. For an example, you hire on to co "A" at 60 cpm with no heralth insurance and no bonus plan. And you run 12K mi-a-mo consistantly. Or, you hire on with Co "B" at 55 CPM but have complete insurance and a fuel bonus and bonus for running over 10K per month. So Im comparing 2 co's that pay a difference of 5 cpm (cents per mi) What co would be your choice ? $$$ offered is a big part of it, but a decent truck to drive, home time, on time paychecks, nice freight lanes matter too.
Wargames, cuzzin it, snowmantrucking101 and 4 others Thank this. -
Don't care much about home time. I stay out 1 or 2 months. Insurance I can get on my own. I drive flatbeds. I want to find good company for it

Try Maverick out of Little Rock, Ar... Melton out of Tulsa, Ok.......System out of Spokane, Wa.....Central oregon truck co......

The better paying opportunities in flatbed exist where you can move on up into oversize/overweight/heavy haul loads.
Thus -- one carrier you might look into is Lone Star, in Texas:

@Winnyf1 might have some insight on Kivi Bros out of Duluth.

What's good pay? The way I decide what good pay is.....first I look at cpm. Average pay for OTR falls between 55 and 65 cpm. You're at 1.5 years experience. You're probably more likely to command a wage closer to 55 cpm than 65 cpm. Then the more important thing is how many miles a company can give you. On average, a driver will run 2300 to 2500 miles per week. You must ask your prospective company what the company average is. That will tell the story. Then you gotta look at accessory pay. In flatbed, you'll have to start with tarp pay. See if they have other incentives, bonuses and accessory pay. I don't too much pay attention to that because that can be cut at any time. I look at cpm, and how much freight a company has, not to mention company average. I start and focus on that, then the rest is added bonus.Chinatown Thanks this.

Where do you want to call home?

Go to wheeler transportation at wheelertrucking.com ... Family run op and pay is probably best you will find.

sadly their website doesn’t give any info about what a driver wants to know before wasting time
