“Mufflers”

A “GUTTED” Muff, (hallowed)

 

I have a copy of the original sales order sheet ( build sheet) for the truck were it says it has dual chrome straight stacks with muffler delete due to turbocharged engine. Wasn’t required with turbo engines in the old days and it only has to have what was required for the model year it was made. It is also a great conversation with the new age Dot bears that soon changes to why the heck you missing your front steer brakes? Lol. I slyly reply no front brakes? Dang it i left it parked on the back row of truck stop last night and someone musta stole them. Lol

 

The feds ruled and it took effect on February 28,1975 that stated a commercial vehicle over 10,000 lbs had to have an exhaust noise suppression device. The two devises stated were either a muffler or a turbocharger but both together were not specified. Any one who ever operated an old normal aspirated diesel knows how a turbo quiets them enormously. In 2010 the feds changed that ruling to anything built from 2010 and newer has to have mufflers period which is stupid considering the dpf systems coming out then had no mufflers. Lol.

 

Don't forget the guards. PUCO hassled me about that once on a straight stack Marmon I drove. He never asked about the mufflers.

 

I must be getting old, because there’s no froggin way I’m driving a truck without mufflers….

 

Tinnitus is usually only noticeable when its silent lol

 

So you want to increase your noise output, and further harm public opinion of truck drivers. You really want mandatory electric trucks with no grandfather clause don't you? Why don't you just grab a 8v71 straight pipe it and really wake the dead?
