Ridgeline, I agree. If you're into talk radio sure XM is great. I think Spotify has much of that same format. Howard Stern isn't worth a couple of hundred dollars a year.

XM doesn't come close to Spotify in the music department and what Grumppy was looking for. I've never heard a 1/4 of my playlists on XM. XM is more like a radio station regurgitating the same loop as others have noticed.

Another point of contention that is frustrating is what Sirius thinks satellite radio is worth. My wife wanted me to extend her XM sub in her new car and only after letting it expire did they send a mailer with a good deal. I believe its like under $10 a month for the next year. The flyer they mailed led me to believe that their platinum plan would allow me to use XM in a 2nd car for the $25 per month. Oh No! It's the platinum plan PLUS a $10 per month 2nd radio fee Platinum Family Plan at around $38 per month after taxes.

In the infamous words of Flo from Alice, sirius can "Kiss my Grits."

Spotify Family $15 a month for 4 family members and whatever device you/they want to login and listen on.

From what I've seen of satellite radio, most of THOSE stations have a playlist of fewer than 100 songs. Their only saving grace is that they have so many sub-genre stations to choose from, each with it's own limited playlist. Only a very few stations have a really good variety that I can think of. "Deep Cuts" comes to mind.... but, in the end, I doubt any carrier will be paying the monthly charge, and satellite radio is difficult to switch from one company truck to another.

Your better choice is internet radio. Get a good cell carrier monthly package (from a carrier that has good service almost everywhere..) with probably 4G download each month. Apps like "Simple Radio" and "I Heart" will give you literally THOUSANDS of radio stations from around the world to listen to. If you're diving overnight, and want to listen to 'upbeat' music, you can find a station from maybe England, where they are 5-8 hours ahead, and are playing their daytime shows. I downloaded the BBC music app to my phone, and can listen to any of the 2 dozen live stations. Tired of American political talk shows? British political shows are SO much more interesting! Falling asleep at the wheel? The Indian Bangra dance music station will keep you awake, guaranteed!

The choices are almost unlimited, and the cost above just a basic phone package is really cheaper than what satellite radio will cost you. It will still work when under trees and inside tunnels, as well....

I don’t do satellite radio. They didn’t canceled my first subscription when I upgraded so had 2. Soon as I noticed 2 withdrawals on my account, I called, gave them a piece of my mind and told them to shove it. Absolutely not worth it in my book. Between my Spotify and local radio, I’m good 100%.

I know who you meant, I haven’t listened to him since he left radio. Definitely not worth listening to on satellite.

Man, excellent point on iHeartRadio DieselDave. Many good modern DJ's and morning syndicated talk shows on that platform,. Bob & Tom, Delilah after Dark are a few off the top.
