Seeking Guidance

I thought May was one of the better ones. I say, stick it out for at least a year, then consider moving on. Be advised, sometimes haz-mat or flatbed doesn't pay any better. Most places require a year for any advancement. Pay is probably the most overrated topic in the industry. Unless highly specialized, which you don't qualify for anyway, I think most pay is about the same today.

I'm with 201. Stick with May Trucking for the whole year. Don't worry about the pay. Sure you have endorsements, and that's a good thing, but now you need to couple that with experience. Drivers that jump ship their first year, usually won't get a boost in pay. You're going from basically beginner company to beginner company that 1st year so it's a lateral move. If you make it 1 year, just about all of the industry opens up to you. You've made it 6 months so it makes no sense to jump. You may as well go ahead and finish that year out. Focus on gaining experience....You're 6 months in. You haven't even scratched the surface yet

Try food service. Sysco, US Foods etc. Usually local though.

If you've already realized that OTR isn't for you, there's no reason to tough it out another ten months. There are local, home-daily jobs that don't require experience, and more that only require three months. Look on indeed.com and the websites for all the LTL companies. You'll find something.

 

Suck it up with May and complete a year. Spend the last 3 months of your time at May doing research on companies that pay well, provide bonuses, 401K's and PTO time without the B.S. - someplace that you can actually enjoy what you do and and retire from. Generally this will be in the UPS, LTL, Specialized and Private Fleet world.
