Considering my history with emissions issues.....id take something with a ride comparable to a solid axle suspension and needing steers twice as often as long as the guts kept on working and werent in the shop every 2 weeks to the point my wallet filed a suite against me for abuse.
That said i was less talking about hineys as overseas vehicles in general both big and small. If they were allowed to build the guts the same way as on their home terf and import them here while being allowrd to compete on equal footing with the "home teams" well lets just say either the home teams would adapt and release actually decent vehicles or they would go bankrupt. See the ford recall..err sorry bronco or the new shop queen emissions trucks as cases in point for either side of that argument.
If Toyota made a semi truck, would you buy it?

I'd be curious to see what they could do in the hd pickup market. The Tundra has a respectable share of the half-ton market. Especially in the suburbs outside of large cities they are easily as common as big 3 half-tons. Out in the pucker brush not so much. That might be part of the problem. HD pickups are more common and sell better out in the countryside but Toyota (and Nissan) don't have the dealerships out there and urbanites/suburbanites aren't as big of HD pickup buyers. Plus you pretty much have to have a diesel powertrain available to play in that market and Toyota is probably just smart enough to stick with what butters the bread. Nissan found out the hard way how sour that can go.
JoeyJunk and BillyBobFrank Thank this. -
Iszuzu makes cabover duel tandem, i think i saw some in a 3rd world country video on utube going down the road .
JoeyJunk Thanks this. -
Relative of mine has a newer Tundra. Nice to look at and rides nice it has some weird electrical stuff with lights flickering.
Its a fuel pig also. -
There ain't no big three, that's long gone and so is their power.
Toyota didn't fight anyone other than Ford over the name, Ford claimed that '150' was trademarked so instead of selling a toyota T-150, it became a Tundra. The other thing is the T-100 was built in Japan, so the chicken tax applied.
Will Toyota bother?
Don't know, Hino seems to have that all wrapped up for MD/HD trucks.JoeyJunk Thanks this. -
Oh for,,look, I said all trucks have the same components. I didn't think I had to clarify, all NORMAL trucks. I wish you people would read and process what others write before calling them out on it. Obviously, I didn't mean this crap, boy, the future to an old timer looks pretty grim.Numb Thanks this.

Other than Mecedes, Toyota are one of the best Brand names in the world, it's interesting as to why they've never branched out into the heavy truck industry and just stuck with building sedans, and 4 wheel drive vehicles with the Toyota Landcruiser being one of the most popular 4 WD ever built. If they did decide to go that way I'm sure they'd put together a good quality vehicle and yes those that love the Toyota name brand would have no problems purchasing one.BillyBobFrank Thanks this.

Toyota won’t even build a 3/4 diesel pickup truck. If Toyota ever built a class 8 road tractor, they would raise the quality standards……and just like the North American RV industry, we can’t have that!
JoeyJunk and BillyBobFrank Thank this. -
But Nissan is such a ####ty brand! Lol

I Don't know about the rest of the trucks but I had an 03 tundra that was bought back by Toyota because of a nationwide frame recall.
