The EPA will not bother individual trucks unless they are caught at a repair facility or dealer, they focus on the repair facilities and dealers because the fines are heavy for this.
As far as Diesel, we have had the same soot coming out of Diesel engines since the 30s, the biggest polluters are ships with slow engines burning very dirty fuel. The EPA has been demanding too much for no real reason.fordconvert, W923, Gearjammin' Penguin and 4 others Thank this. -

Whoever thought using EGR was a great idea was not very smart. SCR systems are here to stay so why not just get that sooty exhaust gas out of the intake, tune the engines to run efficiently with minimal soot and clean up the resulting NOx with the SCR system? Europe went that route with some of their engines and IMO it was the better route. Some of the European engines that make their way over here are set up like that and meet our emission standards with a lot less BS hanging off the engine.

if someone can post a out of service violation document for the epa for emissions and forcing you to shut down and get towed to a dealer to put emissions back on, that would put this question to rest, but all i read are online stories and people saying these things at a truck stops lol.

egr was the worst invention in trucking history, i seen pictures of inside intake manifolds being stuffed with so much soot the engine was not getting any air it could not breath.dirthaller Thanks this.

No, the dealer followed the law. If he had told them up front that the ECM was modified to delete emissions systems, they would have had to refuse to service the truck. He said nothing so the dealer followed the law. If you bring in a truck that has ECM deletes, they are required to flash the ECM to put it back into compliance with EPA requirements. Deleted trucks cannot be serviced by OEM dealers shops.MAMservices and Last Call Thank this.

Believe it or not, some of these Euro engines are meeting our standards without EGR and without a DPF. I believe they don't use VGT turbos either, just a DOC and SCR system.Crude Truckin' Thanks this.
